The Mineral: Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate’s History:
Originally used in making plaster adornments in homes of the Kings and Queens of Europe, the plaster workers would shake their smocks off in the green grass outside the building. In a short time they noticed that the grass was significantly greener where they shook off the plaster than in the rest of the garden. This was the catalyst for using Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate in agriculture.
Although Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate has been used for centuries in agriculture1, it has not been marketed in the last 100 years or so. Other minerals like Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium have taken the lead. However, we are beginning to see the point of diminishing returns in these fertilizers – and significant damage to the soil because of their overuse. The next Green Revolution is critical to our future.

DR. JANICE JONES
Dr. Janice Jones – Founder / Managing Director. Dr. Jones has served as Managing Director of EcoGEM, LLC since 2010. She has spearheaded the development of Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate into advanced materials to address pressing environmental challenges. She has over 25 years of experience on Wall Street and has been featured in a number of financial publications, including Forbes. She also received the prestigious Hunter College Hall of Fame Award. For over 10 years, she served as President of Chartwell & Company, Inc., an investment banking and financial relations firm which focused on several industries, including natural resources and technology. She has also raised significant debt and equity capital for numerous growth companies. Dr. Jones received both a Masters and Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Yeshiva University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College.
David Martin — Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Martin brings 25 years of operating experience in food and agriculture companies. He served as Vice President of Operations at Essentia Protein Solutions, the world’s largest producer of meat ingredients and functional proteins with production facilities in eight countries. Mr. Martin held senior positions for over 14 years with ConAgra Foods & JBS, with more than 20 production plants across 10 countries. He also served as Controller and Director of Production Scheduling for over 10 years at Tyson Foods. Mr. Martin has a demonstrated record of leadership, building teams, reducing costs, increasing efficiency and improving EBITDA. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa.
Mr. Ackerman is a seasoned and transformational food industry executive with 25 years of market-focused strategy development, category leadership, and brand management experience in retail, food service, and CPG with iconic brands such as Publix Super Markets, Florida Orange Juice, Wisconsin Cheese, Pizza Hut, Bennigan’s, Ruby Tuesday, Dairy Management Inc, Tropicana, Minute Maid, Dean Foods, Borden, Daisy Brand, Anheuser Busch, Coca Cola, Pepsi, TracyLocke and more. He holds a Master of Business Administration, University of Tampa, Tampa, Florida, a Bachelor of Business Administration, and a Major in Marketing, Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas
Andrew brings over 20 years of sales and marketing experience at the Vice President and Managing Director role in a wide range of industries. His experience includes nearly all forms of on-line and off-line marketing for B2B and B2C companies. Andrew has led global teams, including assignments in Europe and Asia. He spent many seasons during his youth harvesting wheat and soybeans in rural Minnesota and has since appreciated the industry and the skill and grit required to be successful. The EcoGEM products support his passion for helping farmers/growers to improve results while preserving the environment.
Tim Baringer- Director of Supply Chain and Logistics. Mr. Baringer has over 25 years of experience in the supply chain/transportation industry. He has served at all levels of logistics with such companies as IBM, SterlingCommerce, Swift & Company, Tyson Foods and Schneider National. Mr. Baringer holds a B.A. Degree from Luther College in Decorah, IA. He is a recipient of the 2013 IBM Sales Eminence Award.
Mr. Johnson is a dynamic commercial and general management executive with deep success in transforming business growth and profitability across multiple industries. He is a passionate thought leader with strong operations leadership, marketing, and sales strategy skills developed at Pfizer, Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods, Snyder’s-Lance, and Flowers Foods. Mr. Johnson is an innovative thought leader who sets clear, strategic vision and enables teams to deliver superior results. He holds a Master of BA degree from Emory University and a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University.
Dr. Huffine has over 20-years of experience in developing and leading international projects and sales. His success in these areas has led to him receiving awards from federal, state, professional, and academy for excellence while working with government agencies, NGOs, and for-profit companies. Mr. Huffine has led research and development programs, managed large numbers of scientists in multiple nations and ethnicities, increased exports and sales of various companies, provided testimony before the US Congress and various agencies for both advanced scientific projects and trade sustainability. He has taken start-ups from infancy to recognized world leaders in their field and maintains established international network of partners and contacts. Dr Huffine has an Honorary PhD, University of Wisconsin, a MS – Biochemistry, University of Oklahoma, a BS – Chemistry, Cameron University, and a BA – Education/Teaching Degree & Oklahoma License, Cameron University.
Mr. Lutomski has been a senior executive in the food and beverage industry – bringing brands to life around the world. Having launched brands in over 60 countries and built market leading positions throughout the world, Wayne specializes in sales, marketing and product development. Working as either the President of UNO Foods or Vice President of International of brands such as, Welch’s (which included initiating a Global Ingredient Division), Just Born, and as the General Manager of a start-up JV between Starbucks and Pepsi International, Wayne has led the development of new products to the world, led market success from start-up to maturity and turned businesses around. A key factor in Wayne’s success has been in building strong relationships with business partners based upon shared values and a vision for success, strong financial metrics, and creative market execution. Wayne’s previous experience includes stints with SoBe Beverages, Quaker Oats/Gatorade, Snapple and the E&J Gallo Winery. Wayne graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Auburn University.
